The Faculty of Islamic Law and Principles at Najran University was established in 1430H with the Supreme Approval No. (4017) dated May 7, 1430H. The Supreme Guidance stipulated the establishment of the faculty with its scientific departments within the university; it began with the Department of Islamic Law in 1430H and then the Department of Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence in 1432H.

The Faculty is the only specialized academic department dedicated to Sharia Sciences that was established at Najran University, currently consisting of a male branch and includes two specialized departments offering two Bachelor's degree programs: the Program in Islamic Law, offered by the Department of Islamic Law, and the Program in Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence, offered by the Department of Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence. Additionally, another branch for female students offers the Program in Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence, which began in 1435/1436H.

The Department of Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence also offers one program at the postgraduate level (Master’s) in the specialization of Modern Islamic Studies, established in 1433/1434H.

The Department of Islamic Law offers another postgraduate program, namely the (Master’s) Program in the specialization of Islamic Jurisprudence, established in 1436/1437H.

Furthermore, the Faculty provides instruction in Islamic Culture courses for male and female students at various colleges within the university.

In addition to participating in teaching undergraduate and affiliated students in the Humanities and Sharia Studies specializations,

A Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Law requires the completion of 150 credit hours distributed over eight levels; the student studies 6 hours for University requirements, 68 credit hours for Faculty requirements, and 76 credit hours for the specialization in the field of Islamic Law.

A Bachelor’s degree in Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence requires the completion of 141 credit hours distributed over eight levels; the student studies 8 credit hours for University requirements, 36 credit hours for Faculty requirements, and 97 credit hours for the specialization in Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence.

The Master's Program in Islamic Jurisprudence requires the completion of (42) study hours, divided into four academic levels, followed by a supplementary research with a weight of (3) hours, which is allocated to the fifth chapter for a total of (45) hours.

And the Master’s Program in Hadith and its Sciences requires the completion of (27) study hours, divided into two academic semesters, then a thesis with a weight of (6) hours, totaling (33) hours.

Student Admission Criteria to the College:

Students applying to join the college are subject to the student admission criteria for the university, which are as follows:

* A student will not be accepted unless his average is calculated according to the weighted percentage of 60% from secondary education and 40% from general aptitude tests.

* He must have a high school diploma or its equivalent from within the Kingdom or abroad.

* He should not have obtained his high school diploma or its equivalent more than five years ago.

* He must be of good conduct and behavior.

* He must be medically fit.

* He must obtain approval from his academic advisor if he works in any government or private institution.

* He should not have been dismissed from Najran University or any other university academically or punitively. If it is found after the student’s acceptance that he was previously dismissed for disciplinary or academic reasons, his admission will be voided.

* The student who meets the required conditions must submit the documents specified by the Admissions and Registration Office of the University.

A student shall not be enrolled in another degree program at the same university or at any other university, or have previously obtained one.

Admission of a student will be cancelled if they fail to complete admission procedures by the deadlines set by the university without a valid excuse from the Admissions Office.

Studies in the college follow the academic levels system (eight levels), with each academic level being a semester long, and the student progresses through studies and succeeds in the courses of the academic levels such that they move from one level to the next if they successfully pass all courses of that level, according to the provisions for transferring from one level to another specified by the university. A student graduates upon completing graduation requirements successfully according to the curriculum, provided that their cumulative average is no less than satisfactory (2 out of 5).
